second quarter of the 19th century

Castle Weil was constructed in 1820–1823 under Archduke Karl following plans of architect Josef Kornhäusl. The building was a very popular motif for artists of the Biedermeier as for instance the famous Viennese veduta painter Balthasar Wigand. Café Schreiner was erected in 1802. Neither of the two building was reconstructed after 1945. Another version of this subject you can find in the Collection Sobek inv.no. 1650 (Museum of Applied Art, Vienna)
